Smart Access Control & Intercoms Questions

Every question we get asked about smart access control & intercoms, answered straight.

Questions

How It Works

Can an intercom be added to an existing gate?

Often yes. The main check is whether the current gate, control panel, and entry point can take the extra hardware without making daily use awkward. A survey confirms compatibility before anything is ordered.

Do I need a video intercom or is audio enough?

Audio is enough if speaking to a visitor before opening is all you need. Video adds a camera so you can see who is at the entrance, worth considering for busier road positions or shared-entrance properties.

Is a wireless system always easier to install?

Not always. Wireless reduces visible cabling but still needs a reliable signal and a suitable power arrangement. For many driveway gates, a wired run is more dependable. The survey determines which suits your layout.

Will the intercom work with remote opening from a fob or handset?

It can, provided the access system is set up to communicate with the gate opener and control panel. The gate type, distance to the entrance, and preferred opening method are all confirmed at survey.

What happens if I delay fitting access control to an existing gate?

Without an intercom or keypad, every visitor requires someone to walk to the gate or leave it unsecured. Missed deliveries and unscreened callers are the practical result, both become a recurring inconvenience on a busy driveway.

What is checked before the system is fitted?

Gate position, control panel compatibility, power supply, signal strength, and the best placement for the call unit or screen are all assessed. This ensures the finished system is usable, reliable, and matched to the property.
