How It Works

Will I need a new gate?

Not always. Many gates only need the motor, wiring, and sensors added. However, a weak frame, deteriorating posts, or worn hinges can mean repairs are needed first. Where repairs are straightforward, they are scoped alongside the motor installation.

What happens if I delay getting the gate automated?

A gate that already feels heavy or awkward will not improve with time. Worn hinges and sagging frames worsen gradually, and a gate in poor condition when automation is eventually fitted will need more remedial work, increasing the overall cost.

Does the wiring need to meet any regulations?

Yes. Control box wiring in a domestic setting must comply with BS 7671 (the 18th Edition wiring regulations) and Building Regulations requirements for electrical installation. All wiring on installations we arrange is carried out to these standards.

Is a gate motor enough on its own?

No. A motor without photocell safety sensors and a properly configured control box can cause the gate to strike a person or vehicle. Photocells and safety edges are specified to DHF and Gate Safe standards on every installation we arrange.

Does it matter whether my gate is timber or metal?

The material affects motor selection, specifically the leaf weight and how the drive arm or rack is attached. Both timber and metal gates can be automated provided the frame and fixings are in sound condition, which the inspection confirms.
