How It Works

Can an existing swing gate be automated without replacing it?

Often yes. The gate, hinges, and posts are checked at the survey stage. If they are sound and the gate is correctly aligned, an opener can be added without replacing the gate itself. The survey confirms this before any parts are ordered.

Why are safety sensors required on an automated swing gate?

BS EN 12453 sets closing force limits for power-operated gates. Photocells and safety edges are the mechanism that meets those limits. They are not optional extras, they are part of every installation we arrange.

What happens if the gate is not automated and stays manual?

A heavy or misaligned gate puts repeated strain on hinges and posts. Over time, hinges wear, posts shift, and the gate becomes harder to move. Delaying automation does not stop the underlying wear, it just means the gate deteriorates without the benefit of controlled movement.

What gets checked before fitting an opener?

Gate leaf weight, hinge load, post stability, swing clearance, and available space for the motor arm are all assessed. The motor, controller, and sensor positions are then specified to suit the actual gate setup.

Is the electrical wiring for a swing gate opener covered by Building Regulations?

Fixed wiring for a gate power supply falls under Part P of the Building Regulations in England. The installation we arrange is carried out to 18th Edition wiring standards, and compliance is included in the quoted scope.
